Some definitions also include roots, thus geophytes that survive unfavorable periods by dying back to underground storage organs could also be considered succulents. In horticultural use, the term succulent is usually utilized in how which excludes plants that botanists would think of succulents, like cacti. Succulents are often grown as ornamental plants due to their striking and weird appearance, also as their ability to thrive with relatively minimal care.
