A vitamin is an organic molecule (or a chemically closely related set of molecules, i.e. vitamers) that’s an important micronutrient which an organism needs in small quantities for the right functioning of its metabolism. Essential nutrients can’t be synthesized within the organism, either in the least or not in sufficient quantities, and thus must be obtained through the diet. vitamin C are often synthesized by some species but not by others; it’s not a vitamin within the first instance but is within the second. The term vitamin doesn’t include the three other groups of essential nutrients: minerals, essential fatty acids, and essential amino acids
